OUR FAVORITE GROUPS
The following excerpt is from the self help
psychology book, Be Your Own Therapist.
During WWII there was a famous poster of Uncle Sam pointing his
finger at the camera saying, "Uncle Sam Wants You." The poster
obviously attempted to get the observer to make the difficult
choice to sign up for the military. I am attempting something
similar, trying to deepen your personal involvement with the
difficult issues in this book.

The ultimate in self responsibility: Wherever I am unhappy, there is where I need to change myself. Most of us blame others. |
Up to now, many readers (you,
too?) have been reading glibly along without fully accepting
that I really did mean them when I discussed difficult issues.
These next chapters, in which I talk controversially about your
favorite groups, will leave you in no doubt that I really did
mean you too. Your reaction may take several forms:
(1) You can blame me, thereby keeping yourself in Stage II
unhappiness (see Chapter 4 for description of Stages).
(2)
You can decide that change is necessary for you and decide upon
waiting, Stage III, or what new choice, Stage IV, is appropriate
for you now.
(3) You can decide I am wrong and happily
choose to read further, or you can choose to drop this book for
now/ forever.
Obviously, (2) and (3) are happier choices than (1).
